Rent
When: November 10th-18th 2021
Where: Ithaca College
Role: Mark’s Mom, Featured Ensemble, Assistant Choreographer
It has been a dream of mine to do this show, ever since I first watched the movie. I knew every lyric and every dance move. It made my rehearsal process breeze! Haha! Rent is such a joyful, yet touching, celebration of humans of all kinds. Even the parents, who I got to know very well. Playing the iconic role of Mark’ Mother was a blast. That last voicemail is a BEAST by the way! My favorite moment of the show would have to be the “I’ll Cover You Reprise”. What a masterful song. That moment on stage with my cast, constantly reminded me of how much I freaking love the power of theatre.
I also assisted in choreographing! The movement work and dance in this show was very very fun to collaborate on with Daniel Gwirtzman. How can we evoke the essence of NYC? How can use different movement qualities to differentiate between the ‘junkies’, the ‘parents’, the ‘street vendors’? How can we use our knowledge of social dance, at this moment in the NYC scene, to accurately represent real New Yorkers living the bohemian life?
